Allegacy Federal Credit Union, a nonprofit institution, is headquartered in Winston-Salem, N.C. It offers financial services to more than 550 businesses, members and retirees. The organization also offers retirement solutions through its Allegacy Investment Group.
Since its inception in 1967, the credit union has remained committed to serving its members. As a result, the organization offers several mortgage options as well as debt consolidation services. They also offer personal accounts, business accounts and long-term care plans.
In 1977, the credit union opened its branch in the heart of downtown Winston-Salem. The building was originally a tobacco factory. The company owned an adjacent parking lot, which they repurposed for the branch’s use.
At that time, the company was a locally-owned, community financial institution. Its mission was to serve the “people first” service to a broader community.
When the COVID era of distancing came, the credit union adapted to a digital-first approach to banking. To this end, Allegacy partnered with NCR, a leading provider of financial technology. Together, they have been able to provide members with a range of digital services, including an app that is rated 4.8 stars on the App Store.

The History of Winston Salem NC
The history of Winston-Salem, North Carolina began when Moravians settled on a tract of land in the early 1760s. They were a devout Protestant sect, known for their hard work and religious fervor.
After their arrival, the Moravians built Salem as a trade and crafts town. Their success was evident in the pottery, ironworks, and cloth manufacturing they produced.
They grew to be a formidable force in the area. During the 1820s, the church lost its power in Salem. Residents openly defied the church’s rules and owned slaves.
After the Civil War, Winston continued to grow. In the late 1800s, new railroad connections were built to the north and west. By 1880, Winston was home to forty tobacco factories. Tobacco wealth made enterprises such as the Bennett Bottling Company, Winston-Salem Bottling Works, and the Wachovia National Bank possible.
In 1913, the towns of Winston and Salem merged and became the new city of Winston-Salem. This city of about 28,000 people is the seat of Forsyth county. Its proximity to both cities helped the United States Post Office identify it as a “Twin City” with its name change.
Winston-Salem is a business center, with textile mills and tobacco farms that contributed to its growth. The town is also known for its beauty and elegance.
Wake Forest University, located in the city, opened in 1956. After World War II, classes moved to the new campus.
Salem Academy is the oldest school for girls in the U.S., and its alumni include Benjamin Franklin
