People Helping People scholarship program is one such example of this initiative, funded entirely by members of State Employees Credit Union. Two high school students — Jessie Dale Cockerham from North Surry High School and John Morgan Cockerham from Mount Airy High School — received this year’s scholarships: Jessie Dale Cockerham was given one while John Morgan Cockerham won one at Mount Airy.
